Domaine Gaujal de Saint Bon Cuvée Dames, Picpoul de Pinet 2005

The nose evokes aromas of fresh cut melons, citrus, hay and minerals. The palate is broad, but with good cut. Real character, low price, amazing value. Serve it cold, to pump up the acid!
Wine Advocate
Talk about sensational value! The Gaujal’s know how to get the most out of the Picpoul and its little seaside appellation. They limit their yields, and bottle their wine only after 7-8 months sur lie, twice as long as most others in this coop-dominated region. A bracing note of orange zest, white pepper and ocean salinity leads to a fresh, snappy, yet doughy-yeasty, even slightly creamy palate, with salt, white pepper, citrus zest, beet root and plum skin vying for attention in a manner reminiscent of a light but concentrated Gruner Veltliner. This makes me smack my lips and re-raise my wrist reflexively!
Score: 90.
